During a special ceremony before the game on January 27, 2025, the school unveiled a brand-new banner recognizing this remarkable achievement and welcomed the honorees back to mid-court for a well-deserved tribute.

The evening spotlighted Mary Voorhees McArthur (’88), Crystal Petraccoro Badders (’00), and Shaunna Bruker (’18)—three Mustangs whose outstanding performances on the court solidified their place in Brick Memorial’s storied athletic history. Each of these athletes left an indelible mark on the program, setting records and leading their teams to success.

Meet Our Mustang Legends:

Mary Voorhees McArthur (’88)
The first Mustang to reach the 1,000-point milestone, Mary was a four-year varsity starter under coaches Doug Ross and Faith Fletcher. She finished her career with 1,057 points, averaging just under 20 points per game. Among her many accolades, she was named First Team All-County, First Team All-Shore, and selected for the prestigious North/South All-Star Game. In 2012, Mary was inducted into the Brick Memorial Athletic Hall of Fame, and her jersey (#31) was retired in her honor.

Crystal Petraccoro Badders (’00)
Crystal remains the highest-scoring basketball player in school history, boys or girls, with an incredible 1,313 career points. A four-year varsity starter under Coach Judy DeFrancisci, she ranked among the top six scorers in the Shore Conference for three consecutive seasons. Crystal was named to the Matawan Christmas All-Tournament Team, Third Team All-County, and competed in the North/South All-Star Game. Following her playing career, she returned to Brick Memorial as an assistant coach from 2005-2010. Her #13 jersey was retired in 2000, cementing her legacy in Mustang history.

Shaunna Bruker (’18)
Shaunna was a dominant presence on both ends of the court, finishing her career with 1,122 points and 1,000+ rebounds, making her the first Mustang, boys or girls, to achieve that rebounding milestone. As a senior, she led the entire state of New Jersey in rebounding, averaging 17.9 boards per game. She was named Second Team All A-South as a junior and earned First Team All A-South honors as a senior, capping off her career with an appearance in the North/South All-Star Game. In 2018, her #24 jersey was retired in recognition of her contributions to the program.

A Special Night of Recognition

The ceremony was made even more memorable thanks to Mr. Bloom, who served as the Master of Ceremonies, guiding the celebration with enthusiasm and professionalism.

Principal Ed Sarluca shared his thoughts on the event, stating:

“It is always great to recognize our past successes. Mary, Crystal, and Shaunna not only were amazing student-athletes who achieved at an extremely high level, but carried their scholastic success with them into their adult lives. It is great to have them return and be celebrated!”

Brick Memorial would also like to extend a special thank you to Athletic Director Jimmy Bright and Girls’ Basketball Coach Tom Lecorchick for their continued dedication and leadership in Mustang athletics. Their dedication, perseverance, and excellence on the court set a standard for what it means to wear the green and gold.

As the ceremony concluded, the words rang true for every Mustang, past and present:
“Once a Mustang, always a Mustang.”

Brick Memorial High School Honors Girls Basketball 1,000-Point Scorers Brick Memorial High School proudly celebrated a historic moment in Mustang athletics, honoring the only three players in the history of the girls’ basketball program to surpass 1,000 career points.
