{"id":988,"date":"2021-10-05T20:50:15","date_gmt":"2021-10-05T20:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.brickschools.org\/bmhs\/?p=988"},"modified":"2021-10-05T20:51:22","modified_gmt":"2021-10-05T20:51:22","slug":"brick-township-memorial-high-school-earns-gold-standard-for-financial-literacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.brickschools.org\/bmhs\/brick-township-memorial-high-school-earns-gold-standard-for-financial-literacy\/","title":{"rendered":"Brick Township Memorial High School earns Gold Standard for Financial Literacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ngpf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ngpf.org\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1633553284494000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHpDMQxWQovR_XBD8DFDwUPCYlAlQ\">Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF)<\/a><\/b>, a non-profit with a mission to ensure every HS student in America takes a personal finance course by the year 2030, has awarded Brick\u00a0Township\u00a0Memorial\u00a0High\u00a0School its\u00a0<i>Gold Standard School<\/i>\u00a0award.<\/div>\n<div>Montana State University researchers teamed up with NGPF to evaluate thousands of high school course catalogs and graduation requirements on the following scale:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Bronze Standard Schools<\/b>\u00a0offer some personal finance instruction in less than one continuous semester, often by embedding it into other courses (e.g. Economics).<\/li>\n<li><b>Silver Standard Schools<\/b>\u00a0offer at least one semester of personal finance as a standalone elective OR offer a standalone personal finance course as one option among multiple that can fulfill a one semester graduation requirement.<\/li>\n<li><b>Gold Standard Schools<\/b>\u00a0ensure all students take at least one standalone semester course in personal finance before graduation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Outside the six states (AL, MO, UT, MS, TN and VA) that currently guarantee every high school student will take a personal finance course, researchers identified\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ngpf.org\/blog\/advocacy\/press-release-ngpf-gold-standard-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ngpf.org\/blog\/advocacy\/press-release-ngpf-gold-standard-schools\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1633553284494000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHHEUMl8VIROG2ensxIU2-TannsIQ\">1,591 Gold Standard Schools<\/a>, Brick\u00a0Township\u00a0Memorial\u00a0High\u00a0School among them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>K-12 financial education has recently found the spotlight with 26 state legislatures introducing bills to expand access to financial education in public schools in 2021.<\/div>\n<div>NGPF co-Founder Tim Ranzetta said, \u201cGold Standard Schools show remarkable leadership, surging ahead of state progress on financial education instead of waiting for a mandate.
