Mrs. Warren has been selected as our Teacher of the Year because of her devotion to education and her expertise at reaching all children. Mrs. Warren has spent many years at VMES and has often been called upon to reimagine her role here.
Mrs. Warren is able to accomplish great things because above all else, she has in her toolbox a vast knowledge of best teaching practices and an unrivaled understanding of how students learn. Teachers go to her for inspiration, suggestions, and help.
There isn’t much she hasn’t seen or experienced. Each of those challenges have made her a better teacher with more tricks of the trade to choose from.
What most people don’t know about Mrs. Warren is how she makes each child feel special and unique. For example, on the first day of school she asks each child to say their name and to tell her something special about themselves – a favorite sport, food, or something unusual. Then, on the last day of school, after many months have passed and seats have changed over and over again, she goes around the room, says each child’s name, and repeats what she was told on the first day of school. The kids know that they are special and someone has cared enough about them to find out what makes them who they are.
Did we mention she’s also a gifted artist? Ask her to draw anything and you’ll be amazed.
Mrs. Warren exemplifies all the traits needed to excel in teaching – always learning, willing to go where needed, and inspired to help her students grow academically and socially (which as we all know is easier said than done). We are lucky to call her a Mighty Mustang!
