Brick Memorial High School Mock Trial Team Advances to Finals
The Brick Memorial High School (BMHS) Mock Trial team, under the guidance of advisor Mrs. Diana Corde-Leone, has delivered an impressive performance in the 2025 New Jersey State Bar Foundation Mock Trial Competition. After a series of intense rounds, BMHS has secured a spot in the final competition, where they will face off against MATES on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
The team dominated in the preliminary rounds, securing victories in both matchups:
- Preliminary Round One (BMHS Plaintiff vs. Central Regional Defense) – Win
- Lawyers: Katie Andras (12th), Sofia Salsa (10th)
- Witnesses:
- Carmen Capella: Nate Devlin (12th)
- Jamison St. Clair: Miranda Maneiro (9th)
- Dr. Alexi Delani: Jude Smith (12th)
- Preliminary Round Two (BTHS Plaintiff vs. BMHS Defense) – Win
- Lawyers: Sophie Daly (12th), Tatyana Williams (10th)
- Witnesses:
- W. Pat O’Connell: Jakub Kriso (12th)
- Val Popinjay: Lilah Breen (10th)
- Sam Stone: Eva Caravassilis (12th)
The team continued its outstanding performance in the semi-finals, securing another victory against Central Regional’s defense. Throughout the competition, the opening and closing statements delivered by BMHS’s lawyers were incredibly impressive, demonstrating their deep understanding of the case and exceptional argumentation skills. One judge even remarked that Sophie Daly’s closing argument for the defense was one of the best he has ever heard in his time judging mock trials.
Now, BMHS prepares for the final round, where they will represent the plaintiff against MATES’ defense on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, with the trial set to begin at 5:00 PM.
