These prestigious recognitions celebrate two exceptional members of the Mustang family whose dedication, leadership, and heart have made an indelible impact on our school community.
Mrs. Maria Lupo: Governor’s Educator of the Year
For more than two decades, Mrs. Lupo has been a cornerstone of excellence at Brick Memorial High School. As a Health, Driver’s Education, and Physical Education teacher, she has shaped countless students’ foundational knowledge, healthy habits, and decision-making skills. Her classroom is a safe, inclusive environment where students feel valued, encouraged to take risks, and supported in reaching their full potential.
Beyond her teaching, Mrs. Lupo has distinguished herself as a coach and program leader, having coached Field Hockey, Basketball, Softball, and Lacrosse throughout her career. She currently leads the school’s Flag Football program and serves as a passionate advocate and coach for the Unified Sports program, creating meaningful opportunities for inclusion and community building.
A lifelong resident of Brick Township and proud graduate of Brick Memorial High School, Mrs. Lupo has devoted her career to the community that raised her. She serves as advisor to the Class of 2026 and as a BTEA representative, consistently advocating for teachers, staff, and students with courage and integrity.
Despite facing significant health challenges this year, Mrs. Lupo has demonstrated remarkable resilience, approaching each day with grace, determination, and optimism. Her perseverance serves as a powerful inspiration, proving that challenges do not define one’s capacity to lead, serve, and uplift others.
“Mrs. Lupo embodies the very best of public education,” said Principal Edward Sarluca. “Her commitment to students, her leadership in athletics and student activities, and her unwavering service to our community make her a shining example of what it means to be a Mustang.”
