Unlocking a New Accomplishment in Key Club
Story by Sophie Daly ’25

A junior at Brick Memorial High School, Madelyn Barrera, has reached 100 hours of service in the school’s Key Club. Her remarkable dedication as a general member representative led her to go above and beyond any expectations and attend almost every event throughout the past year.

Madelyn has single-handedly led the babysitting events at Veterans Memorial Elementary School and Lanes Mill Elementary School to give the younger students a memorable experience by teaching them, doing crafts, bringing them holiday gifts, and making genuine connections with children who look up to her. The New Jersey District Key Club Project for the 2023-2024 service year was “Education is KEY” which Madelyn brought to success for the BMHS Key Club. She ran a free event for children in Brick Township at the local Barnes and Noble, where other general members went along with her to read books and take part in enjoyable activities.

She has earned Member of the Month previously but no award is enough to show gratitude for the notable student she is. The Key Club Executive Board Members, Sophie Daly, Sareya Hunter, and Will Smykowski, presented her with a cake (and special vegan cupcakes as she is vegan) at the recent after-school general meeting to celebrate this extraordinary accomplishment, bringing her to tears.

Congratulations Madelyn Barrera, keep being awesome!
