HES Core Values / Beliefs

We maintain the following core values:

Self-Regulation: We believe that self-regulation is a set of underlying abilities that allow children to be successful in social interactions and learning.  We believe in embedding self-regulation in every activity that children experience throughout the school day.                                                                                     

Inclusion: We believe children can learn from everyone regardless of their physical and/or learning abilities. We believe that creating an inclusive learning environment where all students have equal access is essential for promoting fairness, equity, and maximizing each student’s potential.

Compassion: We believe that children learn to accept each other by playing and sharing. We believe that through sharing and play, students are able to adapt and modify for each other in order to include all students. We believe that this promotes compassion at an early age that carries through later school.

Confidence: We believe children will grow in confidence as they are challenged to participate in play-based experiences. We believe that developing confidence in preschool helps children believe in their abilities and strengths. When they have faith in themselves, they are more likely to take on challenges, explore new experiences, and persevere through obstacles. We believe confidence helps preschoolers develop resilience, enabling them to bounce back from setbacks and face challenges with a positive attitude. It also encourages problem-solving skills as confident children are more likely to approach problems creatively and seek solutions.

Knowledge: We believe that learning is more than just skill mastery; it is developing critical thinking skills. We believe in fostering children’s learning through “hands-on, minds-on” play and inquiry.
