Senior Delaney Cromen writes an open letter to the teachers of Brick Memorial High School on behalf of all the students …
Dear Teachers of Brick Memorial High School,
As students, our biggest fear is growing up. We’re afraid of moving on, of leaving, of going through life alone. We’re afraid of being unprepared for the inevitable, but what we didn’t expect was for the inevitable to not be so scary anymore. When freshmen enter the school on their first day, they are terrified, but the fear stops once they realize what they are walking into. They are walking into open arms, a comforting place they can now call another home because of the people that occupy it. As teachers, you don’t just take up the role of educators; you are our role models, our mentors, and our guardians.
Every day, you pour your hearts into teaching us, guiding us, and inspiring us to be our best selves. Sometimes you are even a shoulder to lean on when we need it. Your passion for teaching and nurturing emanates through every lesson, every interaction, and every moment you dedicate to helping us move through life. Thank you for believing in us, even when we couldn’t—even when we chose not to and chose to doubt ourselves. Your encouragement, support, and lifelong lessons mean everything to us. We know for you guys, we may have just been 1 in 20, but for us, having you as our teachers has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Each of you brings something unique and special to our school. Whether it’s your infectious enthusiasm that makes even the toughest subjects exciting, or your ability to listen and offer guidance when we’re struggling, you make a difference in our lives every single day. These moments of connection and support mean the world to us and help us grow, not just as students, but as people. We have even started to realize that your uniqueness is contagious. Sometimes, if you look down the school hallway, you can see kids who have developed similar qualities certain teachers may have. You’ve grown on us, you’ve protected us, and now we want to be just like you.
So, as some of us leave you this year forever, and some just move on to the class down the hall, we are going to live life how you taught us to. We are going to live life to the fullest. We can’t wait to carry you all throughout our lives in our future endeavors. We no longer have to go through life alone, because you are always there with us. You’re there in our neatness, our competitiveness, our thrill for success. You are there in our compassion, our intelligence, and need for perfection. You are there through your lessons, your subjects, and through your love for us. So, we just wanted to tell you how much we love you.
We love and appreciate everything you do for us. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Sincerely,
The Students of BMHS
