“Caravan of Creatures” Mask Parade Will be One of Many Highlights at District Arts Festival

Brick Memorial High School is proud to announce its participation in the 5th Anniversary of the Brick Schools’ District Arts Festival, to be held at Brick Township High School on Thursday, March 7th from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. The festival will showcase the talents of K-12 Visual and Performing Arts students from across the district.

This year’s festival features an exciting addition – the “Caravan of Creatures” parade, led by Brick Memorial High School Art Students. The parade will kick off the event, showcasing over 30 unique masks created by students under the guidance of Mrs. Harzer, an art teacher at Brick Memorial.

The idea for the “Caravan of Creatures” was inspired by a mask-making initiative introduced by Mrs. Harzer during a district professional day in October. The initiative, inspired by a workshop led by multi-media artist Dennis McNett, provided students with the opportunity to collaborate and create masks of their own design.

Throughout the year, students from Mural Making, Graphic Design, and Art Club worked in a dedicated maker’s space in Mrs. Harzer’s room, using recycled cardboard to fashion their designs. The resulting masks are not only magical but also a testament to the students’ creativity and dedication.

“The concept of a parade as a way of uniting the community and encouraging collaboration while celebrating something of importance, seemed the ideal way to commence our 5th District Visual and Performing Arts Festival,” said Ms. Harzer.

The Brick Schools’ District Arts Festival promises to be a night filled with creativity, talent, and community spirit. Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend and support the arts in our schools.  Be sure to be at Brick Township High School on Chambersbridge Road between 5:30pm – 8:30pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
