Historic Honor for BMHS Football: Brick Township Proclaims Two Days of Celebration
The Brick Memorial High School football program is at the center of unprecedented recognition this week, as Mayor Lisa Crate and the Brick Township Council have formally proclaimed two separate days to honor both the championship team and its legendary leader.
The town is celebrating the team’s remarkable achievements with two official declarations:
-
December 10th was proclaimed Brick Memorial High School Football Team Day, celebrating the entire 2025 squad that clinched the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV Championship.
-
December 11th is officially designated Walt Currie Day, honoring the long-time Head Coach following the announcement of his retirement.
A Day Dedicated to a Legendary Coach
The proclamation naming December 11th Walt Currie Day formally recognizes his 19 seasons as Head Coach of the Mustangs Football Team.
The document notes that Coach Currie is the winningest football coach in school history, compiling 116 victories. His tenure included leading the Mustangs to five divisional titles and two NJSIAA Sectional Championships, including the recent Central Jersey Group IV title.
Current Athletic Director Jimmy Bright commented, “For the Mayor to dedicate an entire day to Coach Currie speaks volumes about his impact not just on our school, but on the entire community. The championship win capped his career with pure glory, and this recognition is a profound tribute to the legacy he leaves behind.”
Team’s Championship Success Also Honored
The Brick Memorial High School Football Team Day on December 10th celebrated the entire 2025 squad, which finished with a 7-2 regular season record and secured the Central Jersey Group IV title with a commanding 28-0 victory over Middletown North High School.
Principal Ed Sarluca praised the collective honor: “This dual recognition is extraordinary. It rightly celebrates the discipline and toughness of our student-athletes and perfectly honors Coach Currie, whose mentorship has instilled invaluable lessons in commitment and teamwork that will guide these young men throughout their lives. We are immensely proud of this team and its leader.”
Coach Currie will continue to serve the BMHS community in his role as an accomplished math teacher.
The Brick Memorial High School community extends its profound gratitude to Mayor Crate and the Brick Township Council for this historic and well-deserved recognition of both the team and Coach Currie.
